Of all the great figures of Franciscan tradition, only Anthony has the title of “Saint of Miracles.” That’s why in 1981, on the occasion of the events marking the 750th anniversary of the Saint’s birth, the Museum of Popular Devotion was created, where an impressive number of objects from all over the world, donated to the Basilica by the faithful in thanksgiving for graces received through the Saint’s intercession, have found their home.
These are the so-called ex-votos that are engraved with the initials P.G.R. (Per Grazia Ricevuta – for grace received).
These are testimonies of faith and love which tell of the extraordinary affection that, for centuries, continues to bind Anthony to his devotees.
