THE ANTHONIAN MUSEUM

1.0 Introduction

The Anthonian Museum is the place of Memory, where various objects are collected that testify to the early history of the Basilica’s interior decoration, or artifacts related to the cult and iconography of the Saint. The current Anthonian Museum was opened in 1995, but its foundation dates back a century earlier. Despite its small size, it collects artifacts from the early 14th century onward and authentic art treasures made for the Basilica and the friary throughout their centuries-long history, which began way back in 1232 with the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of the Basilica.
